Asda Store To Create 350 Jobs In Cumbria

UK supermarket chain Asda says it will open a new store in Cumbria, that it says will create as many as 350 new jobs in the town of Workington.

The retailer announced last week that it intends of open the branch in the town’s Dunmail Park shopping centre, and that its store would be open by the year’s end.

The new store will have a total sales area of over 38,000 square feet, and existing small retailers in the area will be moved to new locations.

Asda says it will also re-brand the shopping centre petrol station as part of its network.

Philip Bartram, from Asda, said: “Our plans will create up to 350 new full and part time jobs in the local community and Asda will set up a local employment partnership targeting local job seekers .”

“We are excited to be opening our first store in Workington and we’re looking forward to meeting our new customers later this year.”

Dunmail Park director Bill Dixon added: “The Asda store will massively increase footfall at Dunmail Park, and traders and customers alike will be thrilled by this fantastic news.”

“The world’s largest retail group is showing its confidence in West Cumbria by making this major investment .”
