Kate Moss Dress One Of Asda’s Top Selling Products Of The Year
A dress worn by former super model Kate Moss, a replica of which was sold by supermarket chain Asda, sold out within hours of going on sale in July, becoming one of the supermarket’s best selling products of the year.
Ironically the supermodel has a clothing range on sale at rival retailer Topshop.
Moss was spotted earlier in the year on a night out, wearing a futuristic silver mini-dress with shoulder pads worth £4,000.
The Balmain Autumn/Winter 2009 dress inspired Asda’s George clothing brand to produce a replica piece.
The limited edition piece went on sale at Asda in July for the bargain price of just £16, resulting in the item becoming an instant hit with the retailers’ female customers. Shoppers snapped up the entire stock of the dress in just one afternoon.
George brand director Fiona Lambert said: “At a time of recession when people are finding it hard, we are seeing that people are looking back to the ’80s when fashion was fun, loud and over the top.
“The exaggerated boulder shoulder is the statement of the season. It’s all about super power dressing and OTT glamour.”
